Cultural Transmission and Evolution (MPB-16), V...

A number of scholars have found that concepts such as mutation, selection, and random drift, which emerged from the theory of biological evolution, may also explain evolutionary phenomena in other disciplines as well. Drawing on these concepts, Professors Cavalli-Sforza and Feldman classify and systematize the various modes of transmitting "culture" and explore their consequences for cultural evolution. In the process, they develop a mathematical theory of the non-genetic transmission of cultural traits that provides a framework for future investigations in quantitative social and anthropological science. The authors use quantitative models that incorporate the various modes of transmission (for example, parent-child, peer-peer, and teacher-student), and evaluate data from sociology, archaeology, and epidemiology in terms of the models. They show that the various modes of transmission in conjunction with cultural and natural selection produce various rates of cultural evolution and various degrees of diversity within and between groups. The same framework can be used for explaining phenomena as apparently unrelated as linguistics, epidemics, social values and customs, and diffusion of innovations. The authors conclude that cultural transmission is an essential factor in the study of cultural change.

The importance of cultural diversity in the corporatecommunication context has been widely recognized. However, international and intercultural business or PR related literaturedoes seldom focus on this particular subject. Multinationalorganizations create infrastructures that require people tocommunicate with geographically dispersed and culturally diverseothers. Corporate culture and particular sub-cultures affect thisprocess. Moreover, different national laws and culture-relatedvalues create pressures and consequently communication executivesface multiple challenges. Thus, the purpose of my research was toidentify critical success factors related to cultural diversity incorporate communication management. I wish that especially thecritical incidents included in my book are of benefit to the PR andcommunications students and practitioners alike. Inter and intra-accession variation indicated the presence of local wealth for lentil that is yet needed to collect, therefore further exploration mission is suggested to strengthen gene pool. Except Punjab province, all the other areas are required to explore before extinct of this local germplasm. The RAPD markers exhibited significant association with three parameters (SDS-PAGE, isozymes and qualitative trait). All the five parameters facilitated to resolve issues related to genetic diversity in lentil, anyhow total seed proteins and isozyme (six in present case) gave low level of genetic diversity that suggested to incorporate more isozymes for investigation due to its precise fingerprinting and wider use. The RAPD could be enhanced including more primers including more germplasm, as 50% primers in general were polymorphic in nature.

Privileged in Inequality

Education is a fundamental human right. Attaining the right to equality of education is not only having equal opportunity to access and complete education, but also having equal opportunities to receive equal quality of education, which ensures opportunities for every pupil to maximize their educational potential. The current education system in Croatia produces barriers in achieving the right to equality education for the Roma children. It is failing to incorporate learning programs on diversity, intercultural values and respect for human rights for all pupils. This system acts to institutionalize widely established discrimination and social exclusion against the Roma in Croatia. In order to combat social exclusion inside and outside the education system, the book advocates for the implementation of equality and inclusive education. This alternate system of education aims to promote programs that encourage intercultural values and incorporate diversity of children's backgrounds in such way that responds to the needs of each child to attain equality of education, including the Roma children.

Cultural competence in education is a vital part of running an effective classroom with cross-cultural relationships. However, there has been limited research addressing the supports classroom teachers receive from their instructional leaders in being culturally responsive to the students in their classroom. The purpose of this study was to examine the reports of novice urban elementary teachers on the supports they receive from their instructional leaders in being culturally responsive to the students in their classroom. Cross, Bazron, Isaacs, and Dennis s (1989) framework for culturally competent systems served as the conceptual framework for this study. The first finding revealed that teachers measure support for valuing diversity in regards to resources. The second finding revealed that teachers measured supports for adapting to diversity in regards to school leaders ability to incorporate the community into the school structure. The third finding revealed that teachers measured supports for managing the dynamics of difference in regards to school leaders participation in conflict facilitation.

Rehabilitation of Cairo's Historical Districts

This book considers the socio-cultural and economic dynamics of historical conservation with respect to what is sometimes called Islamic Cairo . It aims to re-assess and to challenge the upgrading and modi cation processes recently affecting the urban and social fabric of Cairo s Historical City. Further, the study seeks to incorporate the district s cultural diversity in the city s future urban development. Despite the availability of the 1980 UNESCO Plan and the 1997 UNDP Plan for Historical Cairo s rehabilitation, government policies remain insufficient and fragmentary with a tendency to favour tourist-orientated projects. The local population s attitudes and stakeholders' potential participation remain largely ignored.

The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate the transformation of modern human resource management through the evolution of traditional diversity training to incorporate facets of culture, such as heritage and language, into the modern occupational environment. It is the ambition of the researcher that this study and its implications will generate insights regarding the entangled nature of internal and external elements of diversity and culture within organizations, the future of human resource training as more organic and casual, the expansion of internationalization beyond surface-level topic selection, and the fluid nature of diversity in an ever-changing media landscape.
