The Starfish and the Spider: The Unstoppable Po...

If you cut off a spider's leg, it's crippled; if you cut off its head, it dies. But if you cut off a starfish's leg, it grows a new one, and the old leg can grow into an entirely new starfish. What's the hidden power behind the success of Wikipedia, craigslist, and Skype? What do eBay and General Electric have in common with the abolitionist and women's rights movements? What fundamental choice put General Motors and Toyota on vastly different paths? How could winning a Supreme Court case be the biggest mistake MGM could have made? After five years of ground-breaking research, Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom share some unexpected answers, gripping stories, and a tapestry of unlikely connections. The Starfish and the Spider argues that organizations fall into two categories: traditional "spiders", which have a rigid hierarchy and top-down leadership, and revolutionary "starfish", which rely on the power of peer relationships. The Starfish and the Spider explores what happens when starfish take on spiders (such as the music industry vs. Napster, Kazaa, and the P2P services that followed). It reveals how established companies and institutions, from IBM to Intuit to the U.S. government, are also learning how to incorporate starfish principles to achieve success. This audiobook explores: How the Apaches fended off the powerful Spanish army for 200 years The power of a simple circle The importance of catalysts who have an uncanny ability to bring people together How the Internet has become a breeding ground for leaderless organizations How Alcoholics Anonymous has reached untold millions with only a shared ideology and without a leader 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sean Pratt. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/gdan/000096/bk_gdan_000096_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Kingship and Love in Scottish Poetry, 1424-1540

Looking at late medieval Scottish poetic narratives which incorporate exploration of the amorousness of kings, this study places these poems in the context of Scotland's repeated experience of minority kings and a consequent instability in governance. The focus of this study is the presence of amatory discourses in poetry of a political or advisory nature, written in Scotland between the early fifteenth and the mid-sixteenth century. Joanna Martin offers new readings of the works of major figures in the Scottish literature of the period, including Robert Henryson, William Dunbar, and Sir David Lyndsay. At the same time, she provides new perspectives on anonymous texts, among them The Thre Prestis of Peblis and King Hart, and on the works of less well known writers such as John Bellenden and William Stewart, which are crucial to our understanding of the literary culture north of the Border during the period under discussion.

This, the eighth book in a progressive series based on the revelations of consciousness research, resulted from a group of lectures given by the author at the request of the original publisher of A Course in Miracles, along with members of several self-help groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous, ACIM, Attitudinal Healing Centers, other recovery groups and a number of clinicians. Our society lives with constant stress, anxiety, fear, pain, suffering, depression and worry. Alcoholism, drug addiction, obesity, sexual problems and cancer are constantly in the news. Mankind in general has had very little information about how to address life's challenges without resorting to drugs, surgery or counseling. In this book, you will learn why the body may not respond to traditional medical approaches. Specific instructions and guidelines are provided that can result in complete healing from any disease. The importance of including spiritual practices in one's healing and recovery program is explained, along with how easy it is to incorporate them in the process. Healing and Recovery provides clinically proven self-healing methods that will enable you to take charge of your health and live a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.
